At my age I thought I'd seen it all. But, after living in Thailand for a year I gave thanks to my mother for seeing that I was potty-trained in the good ole' U.S. of A. A few days after arriving in Bangkok, I was shopping at Robinson's Department Store. I'd been having some bladder problems, and as many 50-something women find, their lower internal organs begin to drop, droop, sag, bag and demand attention; and we don't ignore it when we feel the familiar sign of wet knickers. I spotted the unisex sign for "Toilet." I'd heard rumors about squat toilets; thankfully....Read On

In a small forest lived the garden gnomes, Arnold and Sarah. It was their wedding day and their friends and relatives were all invited to celebrate the new marriage. Gnomes are simple creatures and consequently take great joy in the simple things in life. Friends brought simple little gifts. Baskets made from branches of small trees. Some brought beverages made from birch bark. Other people brought a selection of wild nuts and berries. Why is it that Mother`s day is only celebrated once year - when in fact a mother never stops mothering her children 365 days of any 12 month period, therefore making mothers day - every day. Remember the saying "You only have one mother" well never a truer word spoken. However, tradition upholds and the calendar date remains the same (13t May) and sadly to say, so do the mother day gifts too. Is it any surprise that moms are never really surprised deep down at the presents she receives because of this. Children - the little buggers can drain your energy, break your valuables and absolutely send you to the moon sometimes. The range of trouble can go from babies with their high decibel crying to toddlers with their never-ending, cluttering curiosity to your preschooler with his gripes and whines and on to your grade-schooler with her indignant attitudes. I have not yet the privilege of the higher ages yet, but I hear it escalates to over-sensitivity and highly dramatic meltdowns. With all this chaos, you have to wonder sometimes why we make the commitment to enter into motherhood. While the answer is not always immediately clear, we all know and can relate to the flipside of parenthood that offers a heapin' helpin' of good ‘ole fun and laughter!...Read On
